The last two rows are where a browser tool earns its place. Windows and macOS have no built-in support for Zstandard or XZ, and ChromeOS has none for either, so those formats normally mean installing something. That is exactly the situation where installing something is not an option.
Why there is no size limit
Most online extractors upload your archive, unpack it on a server, and hand back a download. That forces a size cap, because someone is paying for the storage and bandwidth, and it means your files sit on a machine you do not control.
Nothing is uploaded here. The archive is read straight from disk in chunks and each file is written out as it is decoded, so memory use stays flat whether the archive is 5 MB or 5 GB. A 5 GB ZIP and a 3.9 GB ISO holding 7,138 files both extract without the tab running out of memory. Turn off your network connection after the page loads and extraction still works.
Password-protected archives
Encrypted ZIP files are supported, including both ZipCrypto and the AES modes WinZip introduced, and they stream like any other archive rather than being held in memory. The password is checked on your device and never leaves it. Encrypted RAR works too. Encrypted 7z does not yet.
What does not work
Multi-volume archives split across several files, such as .z01, .part1.rar or .7z.002, are not supported. Neither is encrypted 7z. If an archive fails, the error names the actual cause rather than blaming file size, because size is never the reason.
